This book covers that topic from a profoundly biblical perspective and gives the best solution on dealing with our desire for approval from others and our longing for acceptance. Many people are paralized by fear of rejection and this book gives a solid solution. (****)

World News

I was watching the BBC World News tonight, mainly because I'm really tired of hearing second by second info on the Presidential race and wanted to know what's actually happening in our world, not what "might" happen in November. 

What I heard was this story that today a Christian named Gail was gunned down in Afghanistan and the Taliban clearly took responsibility for the slaying in broad daylight.  She worked for a Christian charity that was serving the poor and war ravaged in Afghanistan.    They showed the blood stained street where she lay when she died and the small wooden casket propped against the wall.  My heart was saddened by our worlds loss, yet I know that she poured out her blood for a cause she believed in.  One thing the Taliban will never understand is that a Christians death is never in vain. 

I will watch tonight to see if any news channel reports this story.  It reveals the real hatred that the Taliban contains for Americans and Christians.  Since she wasn't an American, I doubt that I'll hear much about her.  Sad that we focus so much on our country and ignore what happens all over the world.

Untapped Potential

Ok, I'm a little embarrassed by the fact that I've possessed something for over two years, yet tonight is the first time I've witnessed the full potential.  The Christmas before moving back to Texas we bought a big plasma  HDTV flat screen.  We hooked it up to our cable in MI and seeing things in full color on such a large screen impressed us both.  Then we moved and the TV stayed boxed up for 16 months.  Then we moved into our new house and used "rabbit ears" to get our TV channels.  It was nice to have it back and seeing things on the big screen again.  Then when Adam and Sarah arrived I helped them hook up their TV and Adam whipped out this little antenna and I watched him scan the channels and detect 30 digital channels.   Then we sat and stared at this amazing picture.  I though...i gotta get me one of those. 

You see, with our rabbit ears we had to often get up to adjust from channel to channel to get the best pic.  I shared about this new antenna with Lisa and she came home with one from Wally World tonight.  We hooked it up, scanned in the digital channels.   WOW! 

I'm sitting here staring at this huge picture with the most amazing clarity and we have 30 digital channels.  I've never seen anything like it.  The TV I bought is finally doing what it was designed to do and WOW. 

Having the right equipment hooked up to the right equipment made the most amazing difference.  It made me wonder about the applications to people serving/leading in the church.  How many people have amazing potential, but just need the right location, support, and team to fulfill their untapped potential?

Heroes Is Coming

    I can honestly say that I have NEVER anticipated the return of a TV series, since maybe the return of Dallas when the world was going to find out "Who shot JR?".    I'm pretty sure that the anticipation that I have now doesn't really compare.   The "Heroes" experience has taken television to a new level of suspense and intensity of plot.  I know it's still two months out, but I've been waiting since the writers strike to see what twist is coming next.  I think that I'm gonna go get the first series to recap events before the next one comes out!
