Tonight was a great concert by Switchfoot and Reliant K! They rocked the Nokia Theater and my ears are still hummin as I type this out from my Whataburger office. It was also fun just to hang out with Kesley, Courtney, Paul and Dylan from our student worship team. I learned a lot more about each of them...some might say a little too much about some of them. I think that we all agreed that Ruth had a great sound with the band...but the lead vocalist left us wanting to hear a different voice. Each song they played as the opening band had a fresh sound and was original. That part was cool. Then RK and SF put it all out there and the crowd responded. The Nokia Theater was an AWESOME place for a concert. It's designed with a "pit" up front for a crowd of standing/moshing/surfing/picture taking. Then, all the seats start behind them, but up above them so they aren't standin in your view. Not that people were sitting down in their seats once RK took the stage. We walked up and got our tickets at the box office 45 before the show and I asked for "best available". It was our lucky night because we got 5 seats together...only 2 rows from the pit and just off center stage. AWESOME seats!!! I hadn't been that close at a concert, since DC TALK back in the 90's!!

Great read for those who want to be inspired to live the way Jesus lived. So if you're content with church as usual, Christianity as usual, and your life in general, then you can skip this book. If you'd like to shake your own life up a bit, live more consistently like Christ, and be a part of His Church, then grab two copies, one for you and one for a friend, and dive in! This book really influenced my heart to plant a church. We all know imperfect people, especially when we look in a mirror. And yet when people enter a church building the often expect others to expect perfection, and will join in the game by pretending perfection as well. If I was teaching a class on why people do what they do, this would be the text. This book covers that topic from a profoundly biblical perspective and gives the best solution on dealing with our desire for approval from others and our longing for acceptance. This book is shedding incredible light on the Disicplines explained by Foster. I wished I had read this one at least 2 decades earlier. It really gets to the heart of being like Christ. I got this book after listening to Verge Conference. For me it helps to articulate my passion for the organic church and the building blocks that are a part of church planting movements. I do think his language is not the easiest to apply, but the concepts are great and I'm already influenced by what I understand. (****)
